now consistently a light green with either silver or gold titles There is more
consistency with the use of the author’s name. He is W. E. Johns on every book bar one. “Biggles – Charter
Pilot” refers to the author as Johns.
Because the book is so thin the title is on the book longways
otherwise it would have been very difficult to get on. |

with the use of the author’s name. He
is W. E. Johns on every book. Two
books, ‘Biggles Defies the Swastika’ and ‘Biggles in Spain’ have W. E. Johns
lower down the spine than the others. “Biggles – Charter
Pilot” refers to the author as just as ‘Johns’ because the book is so thin. The title is on the
book longways otherwise it would have been very difficult to get on. |

NONE OF THESE
SEVENTEEN BOOKS HAD ECONOMY DUST WRAPPERS THEY HAD NORMAL
DUST JACKETS NONE OF THESE BOOKS
HAD A COLOUR FRONTISPIECE ALL OF THESE 1952
BOOKS WERE PRICED AT SIX SHILLINGS 6/- This is the first
rise in price for a number of years.
The Biggles books had effectively been priced at five shillings since
1943. That is effectively
a decade! The book boards are
now all the same shade of light green. There is more
consistency with the use of the author’s name. He is W. E. Johns on the spine boards of
every book. Again, the same two books,
‘Biggles Defies the Swastika’ and ‘Biggles in Spain’ have W. E. Johns lower
down the spine than the others, but here you only see that on “Biggles Defies
the Swastika”. That is because
“Biggles in Spain” is published next year, 1953, with the same positioning of
the author’s name. “Biggles – Charter
Pilot” refers to the author as just as ‘Johns’. The book is so thin the title is on the
book longways otherwise it would have been very difficult to get on. NB – Both Biggles
in Africa 1952 and Biggles Air Commodore 1952 had two DIFFERENT coloured
board versions. One is dark green and
one is light green. Clearly the light
green one is the one that is uniform with all of the other 1952 reprints. You can see the
differences here |
